Promotion Policy

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The purpose of this policy is to establish fair and consistent procedures for promotions within the Gold County Sheriff's Office.

POLICY

Promotions shall be based upon merit, performance, professionalism, leadership potential, activity, and departmental needs.

ELIGIBILITY

Deputies seeking promotion should:

• Maintain good standing within the department.
• Meet minimum time-in-rank requirements.
• Demonstrate professionalism and maturity.
• Possess a working knowledge of department policies.
• Maintain satisfactory activity levels.

PROMOTIONAL FACTORS

The following may be considered during promotion decisions:

• Activity and participation.
• Leadership ability.
• Policy knowledge.
• Disciplinary history.
• Supervisor recommendations.
• Department needs.

PROMOTIONAL PROCESS

Promotions may include:

• Written applications.
• Interviews.
• Supervisor recommendations.
• Performance reviews.
• Command Staff approval.

FINAL AUTHORITY

All promotions are subject to approval by the Sheriff or their designee.
