PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Field Training Officer (FTO) Program is designed to familiarize newly assigned Deputies with the policies, procedures, expectations, and operational standards of the Gold County Sheriff's Office. The program serves as a bridge between POST training and independent patrol operations.


POLICY

All newly hired Deputies shall successfully complete the Field Training Program before being released for solo patrol assignment.


RESPONSIBILITIES OF FIELD TRAINING OFFICERS

FTOs shall:


  • Conduct ride-along training sessions.
  • Teach department policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate trainee performance.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Identify areas requiring improvement.
  • Submit training evaluations to Supervisors.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRAINEES

Trainees shall:


  • Follow instructions provided by their FTO.
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times.
  • Actively participate in training activities.
  • Learn department policies and procedures.
  • Accept feedback and corrective instruction.

TRAINING COMPLETION

Upon successful completion of the Field Training Program, the trainee may be recommended for release to solo patrol operations.
