7.6 Case Closure

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes procedures for concluding criminal investigations.

POLICY

Investigations may be closed when all reasonable investigative leads have been exhausted or when sufficient evidence has been obtained for prosecution.

CLOSURE REQUIREMENTS

Prior to case closure, investigators shall:

• Complete all required reports.
• Submit evidence documentation.
• Update case records.
• Notify appropriate parties when required.

REVIEW

Supervisors may review completed investigations to ensure compliance with department standards and investigative procedures.
