7.4 Interviews and Interrogations

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes procedures for conducting interviews and interrogations during criminal investigations.

POLICY

CID Deputies shall conduct interviews and interrogations in a lawful, professional, and ethical manner.

INTERVIEWS

Deputies may interview victims, witnesses, and other persons possessing information relevant to an investigation.

INTERROGATIONS

Suspect interrogations shall be conducted in accordance with applicable laws and constitutional protections. Deputies shall not utilize coercion, threats, or unlawful tactics to obtain statements.

DOCUMENTATION

Investigators shall accurately document statements and information obtained during investigative interviews.
