7.3 Evidence Handling

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes standards for the collection, preservation, and documentation of evidence.

POLICY

Evidence shall be handled in a manner that preserves its integrity and ensures accountability throughout the investigative process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

CID Deputies shall:

• Properly collect evidence.
• Document evidence accurately.
• Maintain chain of custody.
• Secure evidence in approved storage locations.
• Report any discrepancies immediately.

CHAIN OF CUSTODY

All evidence transfers shall be documented to ensure accountability and preserve the evidentiary value of collected items.
