7.2 Case Assignment

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes procedures for assigning criminal investigations to CID personnel.

POLICY

Cases may be assigned to CID when the complexity, severity, or nature of the offense requires additional investigative resources beyond routine patrol operations.

ASSIGNMENT CRITERIA

Cases commonly assigned to CID may include:

• Homicide investigations.
• Robbery investigations.
• Burglary investigations.
• Major theft investigations.
• Fraud investigations.
• Missing person investigations.
• Other investigations as determined by a Supervisor or Command Staff.

CASE MANAGEMENT

Assigned investigators shall maintain responsibility for their investigations until the case is closed, transferred, or reassigned.
