6.2 Motorcycle Operations

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes operational guidelines for the safe use of department motorcycles.

POLICY

Department motorcycles shall be operated in a manner that prioritizes public safety while allowing Deputies to effectively perform their duties.

SAFE OPERATION

Motor Deputies shall:

• Operate motorcycles with due regard for public safety.
• Obey all department vehicle policies.
• Wear all required safety equipment while operating a motorcycle.
• Conduct a pre-shift inspection of their assigned motorcycle.
• Immediately report any mechanical issues.

EMERGENCY OPERATIONS

Motor Deputies may respond to emergency incidents utilizing emergency equipment when authorized by department policy. Deputies shall continuously evaluate roadway, weather, and traffic conditions when responding to emergencies.

VEHICLE INSPECTIONS

Motor Deputies shall inspect their assigned motorcycle before each shift. Any defects affecting operational safety shall be reported immediately and the motorcycle shall be removed from service if necessary.
