PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes guidelines for vehicle impounds and towing.

POLICY

Vehicles may be impounded when authorized by law, required for public safety, or necessary for evidentiary purposes.

PROCEDURES

Deputies shall:

• Document the reason for the impound.
• Complete required records.
• Conduct vehicle inventories when appropriate.

PROPERTY PROTECTION

Reasonable steps shall be taken to safeguard property contained within impounded vehicles.
