5.3 DUI Enforcement

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes procedures for impaired driving investigations.

POLICY

Deputies shall take appropriate enforcement action when probable cause exists to believe a person is operating a vehicle while impaired.

INVESTIGATIONS

Deputies may:

• Conduct field sobriety tests.
• Observe signs of impairment.
• Request chemical testing when authorized.

ENFORCEMENT

Arrests shall be based upon probable cause and documented in accordance with department procedures.
