3.4 Arrest Authority

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes guidelines for lawful arrests, detentions, and enforcement actions.

POLICY

Deputies shall only make arrests when authorized by law and supported by probable cause or other lawful authority.

ARREST PROCEDURES

Deputies shall:

• Identify themselves as law enforcement when practical.
• Use reasonable force when necessary.
• Protect the rights of individuals in custody.
• Document all enforcement actions.

SEARCHES

All searches shall be conducted lawfully and consistent with department policy.
