3.3 Duty to Intervene

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This policy establishes the duty of Deputies to prevent and report misconduct involving the use of force.

POLICY

Deputies who observe another Deputy using excessive or unreasonable force shall take reasonable action to intervene when safe and practical.

REPORTING

Deputies shall promptly notify a Supervisor of any incident involving excessive force, misconduct, or policy violations.

RESPONSIBILITY

Failure to intervene or report known misconduct may result in disciplinary action.
